Jade is much appreciated by many civilisation around the world and even considered as a gemstone of eternity by Confucius (551-479 B.C.). In this webinar, the authors will explore what is jadeite / nephrite and in particular attention on jadeite-jade physical and chemical properties.

Also exploring the occurrence of jade and the use of jade by various culture around the world, and especially the Chinese, why there is change of appreciation from the mutton-fat nephrite-jade of Hetian to the green stone of jadeite-jade from Myanmar.

Since 1990, new jade like materials had appeared and also new form of treatment of jadeite-jade caused much disruption to the jade trade. How jade traders cope with the change i.e. use of the word B-jade to describe the type of treatment in order to help disclosure.

On the other hand, for the gemologists especially in Asia, the use of advanced instrument like infrared spectrometer and/or scanning electron microscope gave much confident to the trade and consumers. Finally, every consumers would like to find out what the quality of their jadeite-jade is and its value of their jade jewellery.
